UK government to invest in next-gen cars
CHANCELLOR PHILIP HAMMOND announced in the autumn budget that the government will invest in infrastructure for zero-emission cars and autonomous vehicles. The government will put forward £200 million towards a wider £400 million fund for investment in charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. In addition, Hammond said the government will commit to electrify 25 per cent of cars in use by government departments by 2022, as well as provide £100 million to guarantee continuation of the Plug-In Car Grant through 2020 to help consumers with the cost of buying electric vehicles. Support for the development of
autonomous vehicles is also on the agenda, with the chancellor announcing that the government wants to see driverless cars on UK roads by 2021. To encourage research into autonomous vehicle technology, the government will

can view a real-time video feed of the exterior of the aircraft so they can see the sky as if seated next to windows. Emirates says the design is inspired by the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and it has teamed up with the car manufacturer
to provide a fleet of Mercedes-Benz for its chauffeur service, which is complimentary for first class passengers. In business class, Emirates has introduced new seats with ergonomically designed headrests, a pitch of 72 inches and the ability to recline into a fully-flat bed. Each seat has privacy panels and a touch-screen TV for in-flight entertainment.

BA: new short- haul fares via NDC channel
BRITISH AIRWAYS HAS SAID it will introduce new short-haul price points in the first half of 2018, which will only be accessible through New Distribution Capability (NDC). The airline implemented an £8 GDS surcharge last year and has been negotiating with more than 50 TMCs to develop NDC connections.
change regulations to allow developers to test self-driving cars without a human safety operator. The National Infrastructure Commission (NIC) will also offer a prize to determine how road building should be adapted to support autonomous vehicles.
Adam Daniels, chief commercial officer at BA, said: “The new short-haul price products will be available to both the direct and indirect channels. We know that NDC will support these new products, so we are confident these new products can be made available to trade partners who have such a connection in place. We are in discussion with third-party technology providers, including GDSs, about provision of these products.” BA also said that agents who adopt an NDC connection will have access to its full inventory, including discounted corporate fares.
