Although there are some smaller freestanding designs available – look at options from Victoria + Albert Baths and The Albion Bath Company, for example – this is a look that tends to work best in a larger space with suffi cient fl oor area to show off a bath as an indulgent feature. Statement designs tend to work


best, from cast iron, claw footed, and roll-top traditional looks to contemporary sculptural shapes. Pipes will usually need to run under and up through the fl oor, rather than behind


the wall, so you’ll have to check with your plumber whether this can be accommodated and ensure that the fl oor itself


can carry the weight and won’t be damaged by water splashes. A qualifi ed electrician can advise on safe wiring and lighting fi xtures that are protected against water ingress, too.
