“IT TRULY PAYS TO REALLY CONSIDER WHAT YOU NEED

IN YOUR HOME FOR YOUR EVERY DAY AND WHAT WILL SUIT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY’S LIFESTYLE – WARTS AND ALL”

the popularity of replacing a bath with a spacious shower area is fast gaining pace (read more from page 73). T at line led me to thinking about the realities of home renovations versus the sometimes idealistic way we might want our homes to look. It’s all well and good having an amazing- looking bathroom, kitchen or bedroom, but if the room doesn’t work for what you need, or you end up with an unfortunate consequence such as damp loo roll, using the space each day will become somewhat tiresome. It’s advice that the team and I oſt en repeat here at KBB: it truly pays to really consider what you need in your home for your every day and what will suit you and your family’s lifestyle (and I mean warts and all – so it might be crazy mornings trying to get everyone out of the door or weekends spent catering for the masses). T ink very carefully about how your renovated home could help make these situations easier and – dare I say it – forget about anything that doesn’t have much use. Kitchen, bedroom and bathroom design is all about practicality fi rst and aesthetics second. Of course, the look is important, but you’ll love those colours, patterns and fi nishing touches even more if your space functions well, too. As well as advice on wetroom-style bathrooms (sans

soggy toilet paper), we’re also looking at another hot topic – kitchen extensions. We’ve answered the key questions you have when tackling this project from page 50. Plus, once you’ve created the space, we’ve taken a look at how to get your kitchen layout right from page 61. Speaking of getting things right, our columnist Ciara Elliott talks about her past decorating disasters and how you can learn from her mistakes and avoid ones of your own – see page 145 and see if you’re guilty of any. Enjoy the issue,

ne of my favourite lines in this month’s issue is “the practicality of day-to-day life at home could actually mean you end up with soggy toilet rolls and damp towels with every shower…”. We’re talking wetrooms and how

Kitchens that aren’t kitchens

Eh? It’s a trend I’m seeing everywhere and it’s using the same style of cabinets to create dressers, boot

rooms and media units (and that’s just for starters). It’s a great way to create a cohesive scheme across spaces.
