igh-end, open yet intimate and homely, are all adjectives that spring to mind when discussing the new West One Bathrooms showroom in affluent Tunbridge Wells. The showroom is 400sq m, which is
around four times the size of the previous studio a few doors down from the new store. The new showroom has 27 displays ranging from full bathroom sets to smaller booths to give a complete idea of what West One Bathrooms can offer. The displays in the showroom are vibrant
and creative, from a monochrome bathroom with contrasting bright pink taps to a sleek gold and black display. And West One Bathrooms makes sure to
offer something different to its customers. Duncan Waters, managing director, says: “Everyone can do neutral and boring and monochrome, but we try to encourage customers to think more about what is possible by designing displays
that you
wouldn’t normally see. We have a large product portfolio, and we need to show as much as possible. West One Bathrooms showrooms should be different – it is what sets us apart from everyone else.” The large glass entrance is flanked on
both sides by two large displays to entice customers into the showroom. As you venture further in, there is a ‘flat lay’ area with plug-and-play samples of taps and brassware finishes. There is also a tile wall, a one-of-a-kind waterproof wallpaper gallery

from Wall&Deco and a paint display by British paint manufacturer Mylands. Moving past the designers’ desks you get to the lion’s share of displays that customers can wander around before heading upstairs. The showroom invites people to engage with it and is a space that will encourage customers to talk to designers or interact with products.
Many customers have said that this new
showroom is more engaging compared with the old space. Waters explains: “It is not like a shed, where they walk in, see what’s around and then walk out again – that is not how we sell. Instead, we are all about engaging with the customer.”
The plug-and-play sample display is at
the front of the showroom and is helpful both on a customer’s first visit and at the planning stage, when designers sit with the client. “People are not afraid to pick samples up, and once they have, you can start talking to them,” Waters says. There are hundreds of products on
display, but it does not feel overwhelming. One trick was using neutral walls and floors that would not distract people from the products. Waters said: “The walls and floors are neutral colours, as it makes it warm and homely. But it is quite simplistic, and that makes the products stand out more, which makes it more engaging.” Tunbridge Wells follows the central philosophy behind West One Bathrooms, which Waters describes as “impressive yet welcoming.”
