EDITOR’S COMMENT
THE RESULTS ARE IN…
W
elcome to the fi rst issue of 2022. Kbbreview is the lead media partner of the kbb Birmingham show in March and this issue marks the start of our build-up to the biennial event. With that in mind, it seemed like the ideal time to assess the health of the independent KBB retail sector. So, as in 2018 and 2020, we’ve carried out an exclusive in-depth survey of 300 independent retailers from across the
UK to fi nd out how they rate the health of their business, the industry and their suppliers.
Our questions focused on various themes and the responses we
received not only revealed how those businesses are faring, it also highlighted average order values, the biggest challenges currently facing retailers and what they really think of their suppliers. Just like previous surveys, for balance, we also asked a representative sample of 100 kitchen and bathroom suppliers to give us their views on some key areas. You can read the full results and conclusions of the survey on pages 30-32. Elsewhere in the issue, we have an exclusive interview with Dr Markus Miele (pgs 34-36), the joint owner of arguably one of the biggest KBB brands – Miele. He talks openly about the supply challenges that have plagued the industry since the start of the Covid pandemic two years ago and how the experience has helped shape the future of the brand. We’ve also included a market and trends special (pgs 40-45) that assesses how factors such as Covid, Brexit and supply shortages could affect product and design trends moving forward. There’s also an interview with Staffordshire-based kitchen manufacturer Getley (pgs 46-48) which has grown so signifi cantly since our last visit in 2015, it had to open a second factory to keep up with demand. As always, we would love to hear your views and comments on the KBB industry. Just email me at the address below.
