have included the introduction of GlassShield, ‘an innovative new impact gasket’, and the patented Multask handle, which provides the functionality of an opening winder, patient thumb lock, and staff lock, within a single stainless steel,
Reducing the risk of ligature from high-risk points
Intastop is set to exhibit its SECURA range of products – specially
anti-ligature component. Beyond windows, Britplas also provides a number of ‘unique and complementary’ low-impact products which it says enhance the safety and security of mental health environments. It said: “Fortress 80 Fencing provides security and safety for patients and staff, and also allows the incorporation of large-scale detailed artwork onto its cloaking. The fencing can thus help to enhance the attractiveness of outdoor areas, with many facilities specifying natural scenery prints to help create therapeutic, relaxing environments.”

designed to help reduce the risk of ligature from high-risk points such as doors – on stand 211. The range originated from the primary challenge with doors, and Intastop says it was the first company to introduce a door top alarm that activates an audible sound and links with staff alert systems should pressure be applied to the door top. It has now developed a compatible alarm for the door bottom. The Duo Alarm System works ‘hand in hand’ with other SECURA products such as the Removable Door Stop, Frame Mounted Closer, and SECURA Clear vision panel. Intastop will also show the latest
Shrouded Double Swing Hinge, fire tested to BS 476: Part 20 & 22. It said: “This product ensures increased fire safety, while reducing the risk of ligature for room occupants, and providing easy access for staff.” Also shown will be the ASPEX wall protection range, Tubocolor grab rails, privacy vision panels, and specialist handrails. Intastop’s interactive stand will enable visitors to ‘see and feel the quality’ of products from its range, and speak directly with the ‘experts’ who have been instrumental in designing and bringing the products to market.
Hot and cold water taps for the mental health sector
Hotspot Titanium, the specialist in filtered drinking water appliances, has developed and launched new products and features for the Qura Hot and Cold drinking taps specifically designed for the mental healthcare sector. The company said: “The taps provide
staff and service-users with safe, rapid access to hot and cold filtered water, allowing service-users to prepare their own drinks, and helping foster a less ‘institutional’ environment, with a greater sense of independence. The Qura taps are available with a range of features and finishes to suit different environments, and

the heater tanks are made from durable titanium, which is corrosion-resistant, and guarantees a pure taste in the drinking water. They are also WRAS-approved, making them suitable for use in mental healthcare settings”. After extensive user engagement
sessions and trials, Hotspot Titanium incorporated feedback from staff and service-users to develop the Qura tap, which it says has become ‘the standard specification’ for several NHS Trusts and private healthcare providers; the latter include Cygnet Health Care and The Priory Group.
Hotspot Titanium says it ‘continues to
look to service-users for inspiration and feedback’, resulting in the launch of new products and features – such as a stainless steel Qura bowl, and a tap alarm designed to meet the specific needs of mental healthcare settings.
