HOT AND COLD WATER DRINKING SYSTEMS

taking account of direct feedback from our customers. Indeed a major driver in our design work has been that service-users want to use products that are familiar and don’t seem ‘alien’, with strange shapes and awkward interactions. Formed from stainless steel,

the new Qura bowl is designed to be rigidly fixed into place, and is securely held in position from underneath by small bolts and screws, making it impossible for somebody to rip it out, while the new tap alarm – designed very much with mental healthcare settings where there is a high risk of damage in mind, will sound an alert at a customer- set pressure should an individual attempt to remove the tap by force.

approval, and the world’s only boiling water system to use a titanium tank.

Looking to service-users for inspiration As the tap’s popularity continues to grow, we continue to look to service-users for feedback on what more they need. One of the upshots is that at this year’s Design in Mental Health exhibition we will be introducing a new stainless steel Qura bowl, and a new tap alarm. Both have been designed from the ground up,

Reducing risks Qura has been developed to look like a tap, but to reduce risks where possible – from its tap-like design, to its high temperature stored water and low temperature dispense technology, which in combination mean zero risk of Legionella. The system comes in a standard Controlled Hot and Chilled form, but can also be supplied in Chilled and Ambient versions for applications where hot drinks are not needed. For staff areas, we would usually supply the Qura variant that can dispense either cold or boiling water, while where we are installing in a service-user space, we’ll supply a version where the maximum temperature can be preset at between 30-75 °C during installation. This significantly reduces the risk of service- users burning themselves or others. Our Qura range is designed to bridge the disconnect that we feel – from experience – is sometimes found between designers of healthcare spaces and frontline staff. While the former’s

focus tends principally to be on creating a pleasant ambience and a design-led environment, the top priority for clinical and Estates and Facilities personnel is usually safety, and our aim is to satisfy both needs. Qura was designed to look like a tap, but also to reduce ligature risk. Accordingly, during its development, we sat down with mental healthcare providers to discover the features and characteristics they required, and to ensure we could produce a tap with a very low ligature risk. For instance, it has smooth finishes, and no sharp edges, which also facilitates cleaning, while the ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ buttons are fully recessed. The alarm we will be launching soon will provide a further safety boost. The hot controlled set temperature is fully adaptive to meet the unique requirements of each healthcare facility. We can also offer the Qura with or without an antibacterial coating, while with installation quick and simple – we normally supply the system on a ‘supply and fit’ basis – the tap can just as easily be retrofitted or installed in a new-build.

The Hotspot Titanium taps are available in a range of styles and finishes to suit different environments. 34

Hydronic cooling technology Our high performance water chillers have a unique hydronic system to cool the water. The system provides fast delivery of chilled water with a very efficient cooling technique. The chiller tank is stainless steel, and fully protected by a Kevlar coating, making it leak-proof. We also offer a 20- year warranty on our tanks; due to the high-quality materials we use within our water heater and chiller, we can guarantee a long life, while our chillers make use of the optimal ventilation techniques to ensure optimum performance. It is important to us that our products meet the highest quality standards, and we have thus had the tap independently tested. During the Water Regulation Approval Scheme (WRAS) test, it passed on all parts, including the rigorous laboratory tests and
