Hello, and welcome to the conference event preview edition of The Network magazine. As you will see from the event preview on pages 41-50, there is a packed agenda for us all in just a few short weeks, when we come together again as a community at our annual conference in June to celebrate excellence in design for the mental health environment. This year, more than ever, there is excitement in the air as we mark our tenth conference year, and, in partnership with BRE, the long- anticipated launch into the marketplace of our global testing and certification solution for mental health design, Informed Choices (see pages 14-16 and 24-27). We’re also marking the eighth edition of our highly acclaimed work on research and evidence, Design With People in Mind, this time with a focus on seclusion. We’re formalising our consultation offer to designers and architects with Lived Experience Experts on our stand, the Design in Mental Health Village. There are many rich conversations to have, and connections to be made. As I start to get to know the membership and meet with you, I’m struck by the level of passion and connection with this important topic – and by how the Design in Mental Health Network, in bringing people together, performs a valuable service. It is in our value set – of intellectual curiosity and commitment to improving therapeutic outcomes, of rigour and open access – that we are best able to support each other.

Journal of the Design in Mental Health Network Much to celebrate in Coventry in June
A conversation I had recently with Stuart McArthur of Sir Robert McAlpine sums it up well. He said: “DiMHN gives me the opportunity to learn, share, challenge, and develop my understanding of the constraints and opportunities presented by mental health design. Uniquely, DiMHN has created an ecosystem of clinicians, designers, service- users, manufacturers, and constructors, and a platform to allow parallel and contemporaneous thinking in the development of healthier, people-centric approaches to be shared for the benefit of all.” Over these two days in June, we’ll be
meeting to learn, share, and challenge. Whether you are an individual member or a commercial partner, we’ll be there for you to sharpen your professional practice. If you’d like to discuss how you can further commit to and benefit from the Design in Mental Health Network community, my calendar is always open for a virtual coffee.
