IBMS Congress: EQA supporting learning in the laboratory

For the final part of Pathology in Practice’s previews of IBMS Congress, Barbara De la Salle and Dina Patel of UK NEQAS preview their organisation’s wide-ranging contributions to the programme of lectures.

The IBMS Congress is the leading educational event in the field of biomedical science in the UK, bringing together a diverse programme of lectures, workshops, exhibitions, and networking opportunities. This year promises to be no exception, with a week packed full of scientific exchange, professional development, and the chance to connect with colleagues across the profession. Education has always been central to the mission of UK NEQAS, and this commitment is reflected in the breadth of contributions from its colleagues across multiple disciplines to the Congress programme. Their involvement highlights how External Quality Assessment (EQA) not only supports quality in laboratory practice but also drives learning and collaboration – values at the heart of both UK NEQAS and the Congress itself. EQA offers laboratories a unique learning space – a chance to identify errors and refine practice without risk to patient safety. Since its establishment in 1969, UK NEQAS has been recognised as a global leader in this field, delivering high-quality, clinically relevant EQA services across a wide range of disciplines. We deliver an unparalleled, multidisciplinary range of services because we understand the clinical relevance of EQA and how it supports diagnostic testing. We have an international footprint and are resolutely independent, impartial, and not-for-profit. Users have access to up-to-date guidance, troubleshooting tips and clinically relevant performance issues, in addition to being able to benchmark their performance against other laboratories/ centres worldwide.

UK NEQAS speakers will be active across the full Congress programme. 60
