P RODUCT S Award win for sample packaging solution

ALPHA LABORATORIES and SHUTTLEPAC have announced that the innovative ShuttlePouch has been awarded Flexible Plastic Pack of the Year in the 2021 UK Packaging Awards.

Developed by Shuttlepac, ShuttlePouch provides a compliant UN3373 sample packaging solution that protects users from exposure to biological samples during transit and on arrival at the laboratory. It addresses the needs of users, improving ease of use and reducing the cost of packing and shipping sample tubes, compared with using conventional methods. In addition,

ShuttlePouch contains up to 83% less plastic than other standard specimen pouches, making it the more environmentally friendly option. The ShuttlePouch range of leak proof pouches is designed to carry individual 95kPa pressure differential certified blood or urine specimen tubes (or any similar sized specimen tube). They include absorbent material already inside the pouch for convenient compliance to UN3373 packaging requirements.

The pouches also feature a transparent front so the tube and label are clearly visible. An easy to open tear area facilitates processing when the samples arrive at the lab. Each leak proof pouch is printed with easy-to-follow instructions showing how to pack and seal the specimen tube. The ShuttlePouch range is exclusive to Alpha Laboratories in the UK and Ireland, and provides a powerful, cost effective solution to the clinical and diagnostic market.

All WASSENBURG endoscope washer-disinfectors (EWDs) meet the requirements of ISO 15883 parts 1 and 4 and HTM 01-06, while type- testing is carried out by independent laboratories. Ensuring complete cleaning and disinfection of endoscopes, both the WD440 top-loader and WD440 pass-through models contain a unique basin and helical tube system. Fluid flow in the helical tube lifts the distal end from the wall, allowing fluid to contact it everywhere. The company also supplies drying cabinets that meet the requirements of the EN 16442 standard. The EWDs are supported by Process Manager II and Process Manager IIplus registration and traceability software, which is designed to support the user in achieving compliance with applicable quality systems. The software enables the analysis of the collected process data to provide the user with valuable insights into their reprocessing equipment. The process report for the washer- disinfector details relevant information about process chemicals and internal filters used during a specific reprocessing cycle, such as batch number and expiry date. It provides a complete overview of all relevant information in support of traceability, containing information about the endoscope, the user operating the equipment, the specialist and the patient that last came into contact with the endoscope.
