The IHEEM Conference – themes and Call for Papers

Healthcare Estates, the ‘sector- leading event’ from IHEEM, will take place from 21-22 October 2025 at Manchester Central, and with a conference theme this year of ‘Prevention is Better than Cure’, the Institute says it is keen ‘to be at the forefront of discussions and the creation of strategies to fully utilise the unprecedented investment in the NHS over the next 10 years’. This is against the backdrop of construction of new hospitals, continuing challenges around backlog maintenance, and a shift to more community-based care, requiring significant planning and development of buildings, staff, and infrastructure. Alongside these challenges is the need to employ, train, and develop the estates and facilities workforce of tomorrow with new skills and qualifications that reflect the digital world in which we now live. Sharing and identifying lessons learnt from past experiences in healthcare estates is crucial for fostering improvement and avoiding past organisational mistakes; by analysing successes and failures in previous schemes and projects, valuable insights can be gleaned to guide better future estate management solutions that enhance patient safety, operational and capital efficiencies, and workforce planning.

IHEEM said: “Healthcare estates and facilities professionals – and especially those who have worked in the profession for many years, have immense experience and expertise, and valuable insights, that can collectively improve the delivery of patient services. The annual Healthcare Estates Conference is the ideal platform to share their knowledge, and to have informed discussions about what did or didn’t work well in projects, programmes, engineering, design, and planning, across the NHS estate. “The conference themes cover a diverse range of estate management and engineering- related topics for sharing knowledge, experience, and learning with healthcare professionals, meaning that conference delegates can identify the sessions of most use to them in their professional role, and plan their time at the event accordingly to best effect.”
