CPD-accredited webinar to cover UPS systems in medical settings
Healthcare engineers looking to get a better understanding of UPS systems in medical environments can learn about the latest guidance on the subject provided by HTM 06-01 in an hour-long, free webinar hosted by Kohler Uninterruptible Power in conjunction with Health Estate Journal at 1 pm on 18 March. Kohler Uninterruptible Power said:
“The CPD-accredited webinar will cover the fundamentals of designing a UPS system, enabling healthcare
engineers to explore the various UPS options available to suit their requirements, since with medical IT systems, there is no standard ‘one- size-fits-all’ solution.” Alex Emms, Technical director
at Kohler Uninterruptible Power (pictured), who will be running the webinar, said: “As healthcare facilities and operating rooms rely heavily on technology for patient care, it’s crucial to have reliable power protection solutions in place. The webinar will highlight valuable insights into the latest guidance provided by HTM
06-01, and cover an overview of Risk to Business continuity, fault clearance, transformer versus transformerless design, batteries, and selecting a UPS for Medical IT.” The webinar will also cover UPS considerations including understanding the load, supply requirements, redundancy, battery autonomy, redundancy, and monitoring, as well as design for installation, access, and maintenance.

Mott MacDonald appointed MEP engineers on QEH scheme
Mott MacDonald is to help drive forward plans for a new Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in King’s Lynn following its appointment as mechanical, electrical, and public health engineers on the project. The wider project design team, appointed by The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn NHS Foundation Trust following a competitive tender, will be led by architects, BDP, and will develop the designs of what the new QEH will look like, with WSP acting as structural and civil engineer.
Mott MacDonald says this latest development is ‘a major milestone in the delivery of a new QEH’. The announcement follows two significant decisions for the Trust’s new hospital plans, with a revised
New Hospital Programme (NHP) plan reaffirming the rebuild of the QEH as a key priority project, released by the Government, and QEH Board approval of the Strategic Outline Case (SOC), which explains why a
new hospital is needed, and how it will be delivered. Rhydian Morgan, Health Sector lead at Mott MacDonald, said “Mott MacDonald is bringing its technical expertise, digital innovation, and breadth of experience across the health sector to the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital, which is set to be transformational for both patients and staff. We understand the significance of the project to people and communities across Norfolk, and we’re pleased to be supporting and enabling this step change in care delivery.”
