This was the first joint IHEEM Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland Conference after many years of discussion and planning, and was originally scheduled to happen in 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID pandemic. Held at Croke Park in Dublin, the conference was a huge success, with well over 300 delegates, and a large selection of exhibition stands, complemented by interesting and thought-provoking presenters. “It was so refreshing to return to a face-
to-face event where delegates, exhibitors, and presenters, were able to network and share ideas, innovations, and lessons learnt both professionally and personally, throughout the period of the pandemic. The benefits this event brought to all that attended will be felt for years to come, through shared learning and understanding, and through innovation and engagement, and interaction with future branch meetings and seminars.
A ‘buzz’ in the room “From the first few hours of the conference, and throughout the entire two days, there was clearly a ‘buzz’ in the room from everyone attending, which continued into the Gala Dinner on the Monday evening, where many stories (and drinks!) were shared between friends and colleagues within our profession. “The focus of the two days was
Sustainability, with a number of presenters from both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland showcasing the progress they have made on this agenda, and this was coupled with many innovative solutions and products provided by our exhibitors on their stands. The passion and drive shown by all in their commitment to the Net Zero carbon targets was clear to see, and was underpinned by a genuine desire and drive to improve patient outcomes through the services that the healthcare engineering and estates and facilities profession provides across all healthcare settings. “IHEEM will continue to be at the
centre of serving our members, and this conference has further demonstrated the advantages of membership – in particular in the career development, training, advice, and guidance, that the Institute can offer to the estates and facilities profession. “I would like to thank both the Republic
of Ireland and Northern Ireland branches, the IHEEM Head Office team, all our exhibitors, presenters, and delegates, and, of course, the staff at Croke Park, who all worked so hard to make the event such a fantastic occasion.”
High number of younger attendees Pete Sellars, IHEEM’s CEO, said: “I would echo all of Paul’s comments. I am delighted that our planned face-to-face events
programme for this year has launched in Dublin with such great success. I was particularly delighted to see the high numbers of younger IHEEM members who were given the opportunity by our Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland Branches to support and attend this high- profile conference. I would like to add my personal thanks to everyone mentioned above, and all who helped us in the planning and development of this event. I would like to especially thank Lucas Vogan from our Northern Ireland branch, who was an exceptional volunteer auctioneer at the Gala Dinner. For me, Lucas embodies the enthusiasm and dedication that our IHEEM members in the North and South of Ireland show to support our events to ensure they are successful, which was so evident to me throughout the two days. There is no doubt that Lucas’s efforts personally contributed to the success of the auction and raffle, which raised an outstanding £7,605 for Habitat for Humanity to help them deliver their important global charity work. “Just a reminder that all the sessions
from the event were recorded, and will shortly be made available via our website to those members who couldn’t attend, and that – once again – as part of our continued support to our members’ development, the sessions are CPD accredited.”
Retired Irish international rugby player, Gordon D’Arcy, gave an amusing and interesting after-dinner speech.
