TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT CPD Activity Recording your learning
Examples such as attending a training session may appear more obvious to include in a record of CPD. In reality, the scope of how, when, and where, a professional may learn and develop their skills is almost limitless. A chance conversation with a colleague may include the sharing of previously unknown information. Reading a written article on an adjacent professional discipline may prompt new thinking and ways of working. The key to identifying CPD is whether knowledge or skill were expanded or built upon. There is, of course, an investment of time associated with engaging proactively in this practice of self-evaluation and progression planning, which may be off-putting or feel unfeasible within the demanding day-to-day realities of many working lives. However, in addition to the given requirement for certain accredited professionals to maintain a thorough CPD record, the longer-term benefits attached to considered and structured professional development can be extensive. It is important to note that it is not solely the individual who stands to benefit from a consistent and proactive approach to CPD. Continuing Professional Development within the healthcare engineering and estates management sector is a key contributor to delivering a safe and effective healthcare environment for patients, staff, and visitors, ensuring that it is led by a forward-thinking, agile workforce.
