need to embrace. Instead of being worried about them, and resistant, we are a ‘can do’ group, and need to embrace them, use them, and show our industry and the people we work with that we’re the best fit to do this going forward.”

Alison Ryan presenting at Bedales School.

is the same as our first speakers described this morning – I want to see us develop our young, up and coming, engineers, give them the right platform, the right skills, and the right training, and build a network of young professionals to run healthcare in all the areas and all the branches that we have across the world.”

Supporting other professionals Nigel Keery said the aim should be to support those other professionals, like those attending

Healthcare Estates 2024, who were up against ‘some of probably the biggest demands ever faced’ in healthcare and engineering. He explained: “So, we need to do what’s right. We need to look at Net Zero, at how we build these buildings better, and we need to provide healthcare in a really challenging, complex, global market. We have wars, and all sorts of issues facing us with technology, but we also have some really exciting opportunities here, with the emergence of AI, and a lot of other new technologies that we

A clear future direction He concluded: “I hope and believe that as IHEEM’s new President I will be a safe pair of hands. The Institute has a very clear direction of where it’s going. Nobody would expect somebody to come in as President and aim for us to do something overly different. We’ve been working on this pathway for a long time, and all our branches are working on the same pathway. So it’s the same message, continuing on with everybody: ‘Look at the strength we have. Go into that hall, see all those exhibitors, and listen to the speakers. It really is brilliant and fantastic, and is something we intend to continue.’ So, thank you.” Nigel Keery then

presented Alison Ryan with a gift to express his and IHEEM’s gratitude to her for serving as IHEEM’s President for the previous two years. The incoming President had also brought with him to the AGM a number of members of his team from the Belfast Health & Social Care Trust, and as the meeting ended he took the opportunity to be photographed both with the outgoing President, and with members of that team. Pete Sellars then thanked all those present for their support, before Nigel Keery formally closed the AGM, wishing all an enjoyable and productive remainder of their time at the conference, exhibition, and awards.
