TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT A Guide to CPD
A FRESH LOOK AT CPD – PLANNING FOR THE YEAR AHEAD
CPD, or Continuing Professional Development, is both necessary on an individual level – it is required as part of professional accreditation – and vital to ensure a developing and effective healthcare environment, so maintaining active engagement and recording it are critical.
Many will use the New Year as a time for reflection and planning. Professionally, this can mean reviewing your current position, strengths, and areas for development, all of which are crucial in shaping an effective strategy for moving forwards. A critical part of this process is effective CPD recording. For those who are professionally registered and/or
Authorising Engineers, maintaining active CPD engagement and recording is required as part of their accreditation. For others, a commitment to comprehensive CPD is best practice, and a demonstration to peers and clients of a drive towards excellence in a given discipline. CPD, or Continuing Professional
Development, comprises any activities
undertaken by an individual which constitute learning or development of ability or knowledge. Described as an ‘holistic approach towards the enhancement of personal skills and proficiency throughout a professional’s career’ by the CPD Certification Service, the activities which may be considered CPD are numerically vast and wide-ranging.
