Annual Report reflects on an eventful 2021
IHEEM’s Annual Report 2021 provides a concise but comprehensive overview of a year in which, despite the continuing challenges posed by the pandemic, there were ‘many accomplishments and successes’ to celebrate, all achieved – as CEO Pete Sellars puts it – ‘during a time when there was still so much uncertainty’. Indeed the fact that
despite the pressures, IHEEM, supported the hard work of its Head Office team, the membership, and supporters, had had such a positive year – for instance staging a successful ‘hybrid’ Healthcare Estates event, strengthening its links with influential Government and other external organisations, and updating the Terms of Reference for its Technical Platforms and Authorising Engineer Boards of Registration – was highlighted at last December’s 2021 AGM by both Pete Sellars and President, Paul Fenton. Published to coincide with the AGM,
the Institute’s 2021 Annual Report, titled, Our Vision, Your Future, is available to download at
www.iheem.org.uk/ events/iheem-annual-general-meeting/ Attractively illustrated with photographs of activities from throughout the year, it includes a ‘welcome’ and opening message from Paul Fenton, and a Chief Executive’s retrospective from Pete Sellars, who notes that 2021 saw a 7 per cent increase across both individual and corporate membership, and a considerable broadening of the portfolio of healthcare engineering and healthcare estate management-related courses members can access through IHEEM’s Knowledge Partnerships.. A ‘Learning & Development’ section highlights several notable achievements in this area – including the expansion in training, IHEEM and HEFMA‘s joint development of An Energy Roadmap to Delivering Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2040, and the launch of the ‘MyIHEEM CPD’ online ‘app’ – which enables members to capture easily and quickly, record, and share, the learning outcomes from their CPD activity. Data on October’s ‘hybrid’ Healthcare
Estates 2021 Conference & Exhibition reveals that around 2,500 delegates
attended the five-day event, either ‘online’ or in person, with over 80 hours of CPD- accredited content available online and on demand, more than 3,000 conference platform engagements, and 133 CPD- accredited webinars. There is also an update on IHEEM’s
work ‘to encourage and develop the future healthcare engineers’, including via the joint IHEEM / HEFMA Workforce Strategy published last March, the Institute’s involvement with the 2021/2022 IET Faraday Challenge, last May’s webinar on ‘Developing the Healthcare EFM Workforce’, approval and funding for a new Healthcare Specialist Technician Apprenticeship’, and the development and promotion of a digital ‘Career Route Map’. The Annual Report also explains the benefits arising from IHEEM’s recent updating and modernising of its IT systems – especially in streamlining membership applications, CPD and professional development, and Engineering Council and AE registrations, describes work to improve the consistency of the way the Institute’s Branches are managed, highlights the ongoing support available to both Company Affiliate and individual members, and sets out the Institute’s governance structure. There is a useful membership profile, while IHEEM’s continuing drive to foster ‘Diversity & Inclusion’ and a feeling of ‘Belonging in the Workforce’, are underlined. The Annual Report 2021 also highlights some of the key Knowledge Partners and other ‘stakeholders’ that IHEEM is working with on an ongoing basis to ensure it can better serve its members, looks forward to some of the key events planned for 2022, and includes a summary of IHEEM’s 2020 Financial Accounts.
