As Burstead Ward bedheads already
featured the required ‘aux’ sockets, included with the IPiN system that the hospital has utilised for over 10 years, the customised alarm solution was made simple. The adaptable technology of the hospital’s INSiTE platform will also allow the IPiN system to integrate with new solutions and technologies that may be required in the future as the pandemic unfolds. INSiTE enables both Wandsworth Healthcare and third-party equipment integration for a fully future-proof solution, while remaining backwardly compatible with older systems. Any integration requirements are handled from within Wandsworth by a dedicated team of programmers that can operate fully remotely to minimise on-site disruption.

Technical at Wandsworth Healthcare, was responsible for overseeing the integration of the new alarm system with the hospital’s existing technology. With remote access permissions to the existing system, he was able to manage the necessary changes without setting foot on site. Updating the system in this way eliminated the risk of disruption from having engineers on the COVID-19 ward, and prevents putting engineers, medical staff, or patients, at risk. This functionality is entirely unique to Wandsworth Healthcare. The flexibility and adaptive nature of the IPiN Evolution Nurse Call system allow healthcare facilities to tailor their technology to facilitate fast-changing industry demands. The unpredictable challenges of COVID-19 have undoubtedly put more strain on hospitals and their committed staff than ever before. In the case of Basildon Hospital, risks to patient welfare were able to be mitigated against using the correct technology, despite the shortage of staff available. Terry Boarer said:
“Having our INSiTE platform installed as part of the IPiN Nurse Call system meant that the hospital was in a prime position to allow us to very quickly adapt to its urgent and unforeseen needs. Being able to update the system remotely meant that the new functionality was up and running as quickly as possible, with no need to disrupt the ward activity.”
The hospital’s nurse station unit, with its tailored IPiN system, has allowed quick identification of calls and call type for the staff at Basildon Hospital via a clear touchscreen dashboard.
