INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITY

early months of the pandemic. This, as we now know, subsequently became a problem issue in many other parts of the world, including for IHEEM members responsible for healthcare facilities in the UK. This proved the catalyst for IHEEM to develop and produce its bi-weekly COVID International Newsletter, which was subsequently circulated to around 45,000 healthcare engineers, and supported and endorsed by such prestigious organisations as the World Health Organization (WHO). It demonstrated that IFHE has the ability

IHEEM, the Carbon & Energy Fund, and HEFMA, jointly worked to produce and publish during 2021 the A Healthcare Engineering Roadmap for Delivering Net Zero Carbon guidance document.

to influence and connect with a far wider audience when there is a desire, drive, and determination, to do so. “On IHEEM’s behalf, Pete Sellars utilised

this collaborative approach to seek IFHE and IFHE-EU’s endorsement when publishing the IHEEM, Carbon & Energy Fund, and HEFMA guidance document, A Healthcare Engineering Roadmap for Delivering Net Zero Carbon, for the benefit of all. By working in this way, the key goal of sharing knowledge and best practice between our members was facilitated, and the process also established IFHE-EU as a trusted independent organisation which bodies such as the WHO could confidently seek professional healthcare advice from.”

Ongoing ExCo business Ongoing IFHE-EU ExCo business currently includes : 1: The endorsement of the ‘Technical Manager’ MSc university course already

established in Austria with support from OVKT, with modules planned for education establishments across a number of IFHE-EU member countries.

2: Provision of easy access for members to the IFHE-EU meeting documentation and associated papers. This has been established and maintained in Google Drive (accessible to IFHE organisation members via their own organisation’s IFHE-EU Council member) by colleagues from ZORG.tech in Belgium, and includes all the minutes from IFHE- EU ExCo and National Council meetings to date. Additionally, members can read about initiatives to date under headings including ‘Publications – Call for Studies’, and ‘Working Groups’.

3: A review and re-endorsement of the ‘Call for Papers’ process, led by IHF in France, to provide financial support to members undertaking research into healthcare engineering-related topics. Colleagues at SIAIS in Italy are currently undertaking relevant research, and previous studies can be viewed via the IFHE-EU website (http://www.ifhe.eu/).

4: Supporting the 10th IFHE-EU Congress planned for 2023 in Paris, to be hosted by colleagues at IHF, and inviting bids from member organisations for hosting the Group’s 2025 Congress.

5: Proposals to re-focus IFHE-EU (secretariat email is paul.merlevede@ hotmail.com) to strengthen its support to members and their national organisations, via various calls to members and national delegates to respond to various initiatives, including:

n Surveying members’ needs, input, and ideas, via the National Council.

n Establishing a Working Group to develop IFHE-EU’s Strategic Business Plan (perhaps over a five-year period to help and support a Presidential tenure, as a two-year period is considered too short).
