Lindner’s Micromat HP shredding technology is a critical part of the recycling operation in Weira, Germany for Cabka, which produces pallets and large contain- ers from recycled plastics. At the site, mixed plastics from a range of different fractions – such as PE, PP, PS and PET as well as additional materials such as caps and labels – are processed on all its lines. The plastic recycling lines run seven days a week in continuous shifts and Cabka makes its products at the same site.

Productivity “The choice of the right shredder plays a crucial role in the recycling process,” said Christian Leicht, Cabka’s Technical Manager at the Weira site. “To achieve a high level of productivity, it is especially important to maintain a consistently high through- put together with minimal downtime. the new Micromat HP with a powerful direct belt drive and an adjustable torque. The wear parts are designed such that they can be easily replaced – the rotor is easy to access to ensure contaminants can be removed quickly without any problem.” Leicht said that in comparative tests with Cabka’s
existing shredders, it could achieve an output “many times higher” with the Micromat HP. After an extensive testing phase, Cabka has also equipped a second recycling line with a Micromat HP. He also noted the ease of maintenance for the shredder, with the knives rotated or replaced every seven days due to the three-shift operation. Lindner Micromat 1500 shredders are combined with a Lindner Washtech washing line at the Brazilian recycling company Grupo Ecological, based in Limeira, to the west of São Paulo, which has two plastic recycling lines dedicated to process- ing challenging post-consumer and post-industrial plastics into high-quality regranulate. Lindner said that by using two Micromat series
shredders, Grupo Ecological can now process PIR material such as BOPP and Big Bag waste, and PCR materials made from BOPP and PP raffia. A low proportion of fine material is also important along with the throughput and resistance to contami- nants. When dealing with heavily contaminated materials, such as post-consumer plastics, the downstream washing and drying processes are cru- cial to the quality of the flakes, which will end up being used to produce the recyclate.
