EVENT PREVIEW | PLASTICS RECYCLING TECHNOLOGY

then share a recycler’s perspective in a paper examining the history of the market, its current stats and the way forward. The session ends with a paper by Dr. Minh Tan Ton-That, Program Leader & Principal Research Officer from National Research Council Canada, who provides an overview of plastic circularity in Canada, along with case studies of pilot and commercial projects. In the next session of Day 1, end-users and

been at the forefront of implementing recycling initiatives and laws aimed at increasing recycling rates and reducing plastic waste. Still, the state faces hurdles like contamination of recyclables, insuffi- cient recycling facilities, and economic barriers. Despite these obstacles, California continues to push forward with innovative solutions, such as expanding producer responsibility programs and increasing public education on proper recycling practices. These efforts indicate a commitment to improving plastic recycling but underscore the need for comprehensive action at both state and national levels to address the plastic pollution crisis effectively.

Market outlook The Plastics Recycling Technology conference will start with a session on market outlook, examining the plastics recycling market in North America and challenges and opportunities the industry is facing. Steve Alexander, President and CEO of the Association of Plastic Recyclers, will present the first paper on the evolving state of plastics recycling, the role of policy, and interconnection between supply and demand. Silke Einschuetz, Senior Consultant Recycling & Sustainability from AMI will examine the developments in North America’s recycling market, providing a quantitative overview of recycling, as well as examining the industry’s operating environment and challenges and opportunities ahead. Scott Saunders, General Manager of KW Plastics Recycling Division, will

packaging firms discuss their sustainability targets, challenges and achievements. The first paper by Chris Max, Sustainable Innovation Packaging Lead from Kraft Heinz Company, covers the company’s baseline approach to sustainability, project execution and prioritisation and hurdles to over- come. Then John Manderfield, Innovation and Design Fellow from Altium Packaging, presents on developments, success stories and new designs for PCR integration in packaging. Moving up the supply chain, a paper by Omar Gonzalez, Devel- opment Manager North America from Oben Group, shares a film producer’s views on sustain- able approaches in flexible packaging and integra- tion of recycled materials and innovations to enhance recyclability. The third session on Day 1 examines recycling beyond commodity plastics, starting with Dr. William Tenn, Senior Research Associate from Invista, providing updates on innovative processing technology widening post-industrial recycled PA 66 usage. Taehwan Kim, Director Application Development Engineering from Pret Group, follows with a presentation on process optimisation in a circular economy, differences between virgin and sustainable PA6/PA66 and how such differences affect the injection moulding process.

PCR quality The second day of the conference opens with a session on improving PCR quality, as a critical requirement for driving demand for recycled resins in high quality products. The first paper is co-pre- sented by Dr. NS Ramesh, Senior Vice President, Polymer Technology, and Tammy Rucker, VP Materials Division from Revolution, exploring innovative continuous monitoring technology for plastics recycling to enhance PCR quality for potential food packaging applications. The second paper by Shawn Cook, Sales Manager - Plastics Additives from Dover Chemical, examines options for improving recylcate quality by using additives. The paper is followed by a presentation by Doug- las Miner, Vice President Sales & Marketing from Polyfit, who reviews achievements in providing high quality PCR, with case studies and success stories
