AMI launches new exhibition and magazine for plastics recyclers
Applied Market Information is launching a new exhibition and a new magazine both focused on the dynamic plastics recycling industry. The first Plastics Recycling
World Exhibition will take place on 27-28 June 2018 in Hall 2 of Messe Essen in Germany. It will be held at the same time as the Compounding World Expo, which will be housed next door in Hall 1 of the modern venue located in Europe’s industrial heartland. Both exhibitions will be free to enter and will feature their own focused seminar and conference programmes. AMI’s new Plastics
Recycling World magazine will be the latest addition to the company’s portfolio of successful digital publications focused on specific sectors of the plastics industry. It will be distributed globally and will be available free-of-charge. The magazine will be edited by

David Eldridge, who was previously Editor of Plastics & Rubber Weekly and Plastics News Europe, and the first edition will be published in June 2017. “The exhibition launch and
the new magazine are a logical progression of AMI’s activities in the plastics recycling sector,” said Andy Beevers, Events and Magazines Director at the company. “AMI publish- es the definitive directory of plastics recyclers in Europe and runs regular conferences on plastics recycling and
sustainability, so it’s a market that we know well.” Matt Wherlock, AMI’s Sales
and Marketing Manager for exhibitions, added: “The Plastics Recycling World Exhibition 2018 will comple- ment the Compounding World Expo 2018, which has already attracted strong industry support since its launch earlier this year. There are clear synergies between the compounding and recycling sectors, and the launch of focused shows running alongside each other in
Germany’s Ruhr Valley has been very well received by key industry players.”
Speaking about the launch
of Plastics Recycling World magazine, Eldridge said: “Recycling is a critically important part of the plastics industry and I am very excited to be editing an international title focused on the latest technolo- gies, projects and legislation in this sector. The new magazine will complement AMI’s established titles focused on the compounding, extrusion and injection moulding markets”.
One51 adds Macro Plastics to US operations
Ireland-based One51, which manufactures rigid packaging, environmental containers and industrial products sectors, has agreed to acquire Macro Plastics in the US through its 67%-owned subsidiary IPL, for a total enterprise value of $150m. Subject to regulatory approval, this should be completed within June. One51 said that Macro
“offers a significant footprint for IPL’s expansion in the strategically important US

market and the growing South American market”. The two firms’ product lines are also said to be complementary. “This transformational acquisition gives us our first significant presence on the west coast of America, providing us with a leading position in a number of growing market segments,” added One51 CEO Alan Walsh. The deal is being funded
through a mixture of debt and equity from IPL shareholders.
It all follows the acquisition of Encore Industries in November 2016 and is expected to be earnings-enhancing this year. Macro is the world’s largest
maker of rigid plastic bulk bins, also offering rigid plastic bulk packaging systems for the agricultural and automo- tive sectors, and operates some of the largest bulk machines in North America. Its main facility is in California and it has two other facilities in Kentucky and Washington.
Revenues and adjusted EBITDA are expected to be about $95m and $16m respectively this year. One51 itself has production
facilities in Ireland, the UK, North America and China, employing about 1,600 people. IPL makes injection moulded products at six facilities in Canada and the US for food and bulk packaging, environ- mental and material handling. ❙
