Tuthill Plastics Group has been using a Sawyer robot with Intera 5 to pick parts from a conveyor belt and place them into a CNC machine. The robot uses the Intera 5’s force sensing abilities to improve placement precision and part quality, reducing a length defect on the part by 98% since implemention. “Part placement is extremely critical to our machining process. Sawyer is able to ensure product quality and consistency effec- tively, handle the variability of the production line, and automatically re-register to the environment in the event that any parts move,” says Richard Curtain, President, Tuthill Plastics Group. CAD Grip interactive software for configuring custom- designed grippers. The company says that previous knowledge of CAD systems is not necessary as compo- nents are simply imported and gripper parts chosen for the modular system through a ‘drag and drop’ arrange- ment. The software supports the user throughout, recommending parts from the full AGS range for construction of an optimised gripper. When the configu- ration is complete, the parts list can be exported to the AGS customer portal and an order placed. Featuring a wide jaw opening, high closing force, single-acting operation, and easy assembly and disassembly, the new 2106 series gripper is also available with optional direct sensing capabilities and smooth or saw-tooth jaws. Comprised of zinc plated steel gripper jaws with anodised, high strength aluminium alloy housings, and compatible with both oiled and unoiled compressed air, the company says that 2016 Series sprue grippers deliver reliable perfor- mance even in harsh manufacturing environments. “These latest additions to our extensive portfolio of dependable sprue grippers feature several customis- able options that allow our customers to tailor the jaw style and sensing capabilities to meet their own unique gripping system requirements,” says Rainer Mehrer, FIPA President. “The series’ high grip-force and wide jaw opening enable the reliable handling of large sprues and its gap-free closure enables the reliable handling of small and flat sprues.”
