KraussMaffei’s sales helped by access to Chinese market
The KraussMaffei Group said that it “achieved excellent results, strengthening its foundation for future global growth” in 2017. This was a record year for the group, with sales up 8% to a new record of €1.37bn, thanks to demand for new technologies and services, and “powerful impulses from China”. Growth from 2016 in new orders was 6%. CEO Frank Stieler said:
“Improved access to the Chinese market thanks to our owner ChemChina played an important part in this. Our products in the injection moulding and reaction process technology segments in particular benefited greatly from growing Chinese demand. We intend to adapt our product series more to take account of regional require- ments.”

During 2018, KraussMaf- fei plans further investment growth, driven mainly by global megatrends like digitalisation and automa- tion. The focus will be on the machine fleet, IT infrastruc- ture and software. Capital investment of about €67m will be over 81% up on 2017 levels. The group also plans to define a new strategic focus with its ‘Compass’ project, which, Stieler said, “will make it possible to develop new products and services for digital solutions and new business models in times of accelerated global techno-
logical change”. Subject to official
approval, it will also be listed on the Chinese stock market, helping to raise the necessary capital for the planned investment. KraussMaffei subsidiary Netstal has launched a sales cooperation with industrial systems firm Rieckermann in seven South-East Asian countries: Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam. The operation will be led by KraussMaffei’s Thai unit.
