INNOVATION | PACKAGING

Verstraete IML has been working with injection moulder Polyoak for South African brand Clover on rectan- gular reusable Barrier IML packaging for Cream O’Naise

exactly where consumers prefer to keep their mayonnaise.” Joe Kaddoum, Regional Business Development Manager Middle East and Africa at Verstraete IML, adds: “An oxygen barrier IML label reduces the oxygen permeability of IML packaging by making use of an EVOH layer in the IML film. The OTR value (Oxygen Transmission Rate) of packaging with an oxygen barrier IML label can be up to 100 times lower than that of packaging with a standard IML label. Barrier IML not only extends the shelf life of a product; it also helps to maintain the best possible taste and aroma. Verstraete IML supplies two types of IML labels: oxygen barrier IML labels and light barrier IML labels. For Clover Cream O’Naise, we used oxygen barrier IML.” A number of companies within the RPC group

are providing new packaging solutions for brand manufacturers. Probiotic maker Yun Probiotherapy is using the Magic Star airless dispenser and Vario overcap from RPC Bramlage for its range of treatments for personal care and severe skin problems. Yun’s formulae rely on good bacteria to fight off bacterial and fungal imbalances and boost the skin’s natural protective bacterial shield. The products are free from regular preservatives and emulsifiers and therefore require a packaging solution that keeps them protected and in premium

condition until required. The injection moulded polypropylene Magic Star dispensers in 50ml and 200ml sizes are claimed to provide the ideal mix of functionality and style, combining effective protec- tion of the contents with reliable, accurate and controlled dispensing. The design also ensures that the dispenser can continue to operate smoothly, even if air is trapped in the container. For Yun, the dispensers are decorated with a self-adhesive label, with three coloured bands. The top grey and white layers are consistent through- out the range in keeping with the Yun branding, while the bottom layer is colour coded for the different treatments in the range. The clear Vario overcap completes the family look. RPC Bramlage says that the Magic Star airless systems can handle products of many different viscosities, making them ideal for the personal care, cosmetic and pharma- ceutical markets. The modular construction, with separate body and dispensing head, allows easy filling while enabling each pack to be tailored to specific requirements. A new 19mm tube closure from RPC Zeller Plas-

tik Zell is the first standard push-on flip-top hinge tube closure (HTC) of such a small size. Aimed at cosmetic and pharmaceutical products, the new-size polypropylene closure extends RPC Zeller’s existing Supersoft range with a solution that offers both aesthetic and consumer-convenience benefits. The 1.2g closure is pushed onto the shoulder of tubes and can be oriented towards the printing for added decorative possibilities. In addition, its outer dimensions are in line with the tube diameter. A glossy surface finish helps to create on-shelf

appeal and this can be further enhanced by the availability of high-end decoration, such as hot foiling around the entire cap, made possible by its hidden injection point. It can be specified with either a 1.5mm or 3mm orifice. For end-users the closure offers easy opening and closing with one hand. As it is a flip top the cap remains on the container and cannot be lost, offering a major
