SHOW PREVIEW | NPE 2018
TECHNOLOGY
Right: Boy will show two-com- ponent
moulding at NPE
At NPE2018, Husky Injection Molding Systems will show recent developments in its Multi-Layer Technology for injection moulded packaging, which it introduced at NPE in 2015. The company says momentum has grown for Multi-Layer Technol- ogy, and more than 30 systems have been sold around the world for applications including carbonated soft drinks, juice, sparkling water, beer, tea, dairy, food and personal care. Husky’s Multi- Layer Experience Center at NPE2018 will highlight the technology’s capability for various application requirements, including barriers for light, oxygen and carbon dioxide, as well as bottles with new design and functional treatments that enhance shelf appeal. On its stand, Husky will be running its integrated
HyPET 225 preform manufacturing system, produc- ing an 11 g preform using a 48-cavity mould and running an 8.2 s cycle time. The company is also highlighting its PET Tooling technologies and services. The company says another NPE2018 highlight will be its Valve Gate Hot Runner innova- tions “providing incredible gate quality over millions of cycles with reduced cost of ownership”. The stand will also show integrated manufacturing capabilities for the medical market, which include Husky machines and Schöttli medical moulds.

The German injection moulding machine manufac- turer Boy is represented at NPE2018 by its long- standing US sister company Boy Machines Inc, based in Exton, Pennsylvania. An insert moulding application will be shown on a vertical Boy 35 E VV machine (38 US tons). A Boy 100E machine with servo drive and patented Procan Alpha 4 control will mould with liquid silicone rubber on a 128-cav-
ity mould to produce small protective sleeves for cable ends in a cycle time of 14 s. Another highlight will be the production of two component wine bottle spouts, using a Boy 60 E machine, equipped with the energy-saving EconPlast-Technology, producing the base body of a highly transparent NAS material for the first component. In a second component, the integrat- ed injection unit BOY 2C S overmoulds two sealing lips for an optimum seal of the spout in the bottle. A Boy XXS that produces small technical parts, a Boy 25 E that produces a clear magnifying lens and a Boy 35 E that produces medical parts, complete the exhibition line-up of machines.

NPE2018 will provide the platform for Arburg’s hybrid Allrounder 1120 H machine to make its debut in North America. The machine, which has been shown at Fakuma 2017 in Germany, extends Arburg’s clamping force range by 30% to 730 US tons. Fitted with the company’s Gestica control system, the Allrounder 1120 H at NPE will be shown moulding folding step stools. The eight individual parts from PP are handled by a Multilift V 40 linear robotic system and then combined within the injection moulding cycle with the help of a six-axis robot and assembly station. The finished product is created “ready to use” in a cycle time of 60 s in a fully automated process.
