NPE 2018 | SHOW PREVIEW

injection moulding machine. Together with the grip surface and core, up to 500 bristles can be formed in a single-component injection mould. In teletronics moulding, Engel will show an Insert 60V/35 vertical injection moulding machine making thermal switch housings. The automated process includes pre-punching of the contacts and the carrier plates are overmould-

An electric Allrounder 270 A with a 0.1 oz micro injection unit is being shown moulding LSR membranes as used in valves for the medical technology or the automotive industry. The micro injection unit is equipped with a special 0.3 inch LSR screw for manufacturing the 0.0018 oz LSR pre- moulded part (70 Shore A hardness). Fibre direct compounding (FDC) with glass fibre

rovings will be shown with a hydraulic Allrounder 820 S producing two 11.6 oz airbag housings in a cycle time of 70 s. The FDC unit on the injection unit includes a side feeder with integrated cutter, an adapted cylinder, and special screw geometry. In the medical sector, an electric Allrounder 470

A will mould tubs from medical-grade PP using a 2-cavity mould from Hofstetter. The cycle time for two tubs, each weighing just over 0.05 oz is around 2.9 s. In the thin-wall packaging sector, a hybrid Allrounder 570 H will produce four IML tubs from PP in a cycle time of around 1.9 s. The decorated finished parts with a wall thickness of 0.0126 inches weigh 0.12 oz each. Production of individualised high-volume parts will be shown in a display which unites a 370 E Golden Electric machine with Arburg’s Freeformer additive manufacturing technology. At an interac- tive station, NPE visitors will be able to pick up functional parts made on a Freeformer. www.arburg.com

Engel will present a fully automated production cell for the DecoJect process, which combines injection moulding and In-Mould Graining to make premium interior automotive components. In the DecoJect process, the foil is punched out and remains on the component so that, in addition to colour and pattern, surface structure and haptics are also addressed. The company will produce interior upper door trim with various surface structures on a Duo 5160/1000 machine. The healthcare application presented in Orlando

ed with glass-filled PA, with eight finished parts leaving the production cell every 20 s. An all-electric E-cap 2440/420 US injection moulding machine, equipped with a 96-cavity mould, will be producing 26 mm HDPE caps in a cycle time of 2 s. In thin-wall packaging, an all-electric E-motion 740/240 T US moulding machine will be shown on the stand of Campetella Robotic Center producing airline cups. Partner companies are showing LSR applications with Engel machines at NPE. At Wacker Silicones’ stand, coasters will be produced on a hydraulic Victory 200/120 with a 4-cavity mould. An addi- tional tie-bar-less application is being run on a Victory 200/55 at the stand of the tool builder Burteck. Shin-Etsu Silicones will produce eyeglass lenses on an all-electric E-mac 170/55 machine using an optical grade LSR. Engel subsidiary Wintec will launch into the US,

Canadian, Mexican, and Brazilian markets at NPE. The company was set up in Changzhou, China in 2014, making injection moulding machines for standard applications in the Asian markets. Engel said: “Wintec machines are preferably used for high-volume, single-component injection mould- ing, which may not require any special technolo- gies, yet still places high demands on quality and
