Aurora completes expansion of PVC compounding facility in US
Aurora Material Solutions, formerly Aurora Plastics, recently completed an expansion of its facility in Streetsboro, Ohio. The upgrade extends the company’s capacity in thermoplastic compounding of rigid PVCs, rigid PVC alloys, and CPVC, creates new jobs, and supports Aurora’s continued growth. “The expansion is an example of our company’s mission to be our customers’ first choice in polymer solutions,” said Darrell Hughes, CEO at Aurora Material Solutions. “Streetsboro operations are industry leading, incorporating sophisticated compounding assets and process controls. Streetsboro is also the location of our rigid PVC technical centre.” The site began scale-up product trials for customers in May.

New fluoropolymers process
AGC announced it has developed a new method of producing fluoropolymers, which are used in various fields including semiconductors, automobiles, electronics, and energy. Some fluoropolymers have been conventionally manufactured through a
method called emulsion polymerisation, which uses fluorinated surfactants as polymerisation aids. However, AGC says the new technology it has developed “makes it possible to manufacture fluoropolymers with the same high- performance properties as those produced by
conventional methods with an extremely low generation of fluorinated byproducts, without using any surfactants”. The company said the technology is currently in development, with the aim of starting industrial-scale production by 2030.

Formosa Plastics to boost PVC
Formosa Plastics has announced a major expansion of its PVC plant in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in the US. It said this will significantly boost capacity and enable the facility to handle larger production volumes and manage peak demand periods more efficiently. The company said the
expansion project will also create numerous employment opportunities, from skilled technical positions to support roles, which it anticipates will contribute to the region’s economic growth.
