Right: Inverter housing: a demanding application targeted by Eurotec
or engineering plastics primarily by their higher thermal stability and mechani- cal performance, excellent chemical resistance, dimensional stability and
flame resistance. High temperature resistance
is one of the key parameters which has limited the range of polymers used in selected applications from automotive to electronics, said Buket Turan, Technical Marketing Manager at Eurotec. Automotive makers deriving more power from smaller engines require those engines to work at higher temperatures. This requires materials to perform at an elevated CUT while retaining mechanical properties, said Turan. Many automo- tive solutions requiring long-term heat resistance have been meet with PPA, PPS and PEEK-based materials, which are used in a range of applica- tions, including ignition components and sensors for underhood components, high-heat lamp sockets and coils in electronic systems and inverter housings, said Turan. Eurotec has developed numerous formulations for use in high-temperature applications. Examples include Tecomid HT NT40 GD40 BK009 XA61, a PPA 40% glass fibre reinforced flame retardant and heat stabilised grade, which was selected by a large automotive OEM for an inverter housing application where standard PBT and PET materials cannot provide the required CUT. Its Tecomid HT NT40 GR50 BK009 HS, a PPA 50% glass fibre (GF) reinforced heat stabilised black material, and Tecomid HT NT40 GR30 NL HS, a PPA 30% GF reinforced heat stabilised natural material, were designed for use in gear lever and high-heat lamp socket applications respectively, said Turan. Eurotec also improved its material solutions for electric motor applications according to OEM specifications. Its Tecotek ES20 GR30 NL, a PESU 30% GF reinforced, natural grade and Tecotek EP20 GR20 NL, a PESU 20% GF reinforced natural, were approved in global OEM lists as suitable for use in rotor end caps, said Turan. Its Tecotron XS20 KK65 BK009 0B, a PPS 65% GF and mineral reinforced black material, is used in insulation coil applications.

E-motorcycles Polyplastics announced that an advanced grade of its Duranex PBT material has been selected for use in battery packs produced by Selex Motors, an electric motorcycle start-up in Vietnam. Polyplastics specifically formulated the material for the battery cover application to help the company improve the overall quality of its batteries, the company said. Battery covers play a crucial role in EVs by provid- ing safety and maintaining the integrity of battery packs and are also important for the overall functionality and attractiveness of electric two- wheeled vehicles, which contributes to the success of the EV market in the region. Polyplastics said the advanced Duranex PBT
grade features flame retardancy, low warpage, and resistance to heat and moisture. The PBT grade has been certified by Underwriters Laboratory with a V-0 rating, indicating its high flame retardancy. Battery covers made with Duranex have exceeded the demanding requirements of the TCVN (Viet- nam National Standard System), and stringent international standards. Selex Motors is focused on developing a full ecosystem for smart electric motorcycles and looks to encourage the use of smart transportation in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. Selex Motors is now the trusted EV partner of various delivery service firms in the region. The announcement demon- strates the beneficial, long-term improvements occurring in green transportation.

inherent flame retardant behaviour, low heat release, low smoke and toxicity properties that allow them to meet stringent standards in the aviation industry. Eurotec said it is a raw material supplier for Turkish Airlines and offers a diverse product range for aviation applications, including a high-performance PEEK grade for applications requiring a material to withstand temperatures up to 260°C. It also offers several grades that can replace metals to overcome corrosion issues while delivering a high level of rigidity and tensile strength, such as gears, bearing rings and pump components, said Turan.
