Chemical trading firm Nagase & Co has signed an agreement with TotalEnergies Corbion to distribute its Luminy PLA bio-based plastics in Japan. In addition to expanding sales in East Asia, Nagase and TEC will collaborate on research and development to evaluate and enhance material properties on the way to developing new applications.

French distributor Snetor and MEG Polymers have announced a joint venture to establish a new entity called MEG Snetor. The two companies expect the newly-formed enterprise to become a major player in the Turkish polymer and chemical distribution market. Mehmet Turhan Onur is set to fill the role of Managing Director.

BYK to end PFAS additives production
Chemical supplier BYK is ending production of additives containing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in favour of more environmentally compatible alternatives, the company announced. BYK, owned by Altana, said the last shipment of products containing PFAS is expected by the end of 2025. “We want to help our customers phase out products containing PFAS by offering them differentiated alternatives at an early date and showing them new ways in the formulation of sustainable solutions with less environmental impact,” said Stefan Mössmer, Managing Director Marketing & Commercial at BYK. Altana increased its sales by 18% to €1.64bn in the first half of 2024. Sales rose by 12% to €703m at BYK and by 24% to €224m at effect pigment business Eckart, which acquired Silberline in January. In other BYK news, Heike Buskies has taken over management of the Global Business Line Plastics Additives segment. Her predecessor Ted Williams is to become Regional Business Line Manager Plastics Additives in the NAFTA region where he will continue to expand the business. �

Emirates Biotech forms leadership team
New PLA group Emirates Biotech has made senior managerial appointments, following on from its announcement of Marc Verbruggen as CEO (see Compounding World August issue). François de Bie has been appointed as Chief Commercial Officer, Aman Kulshrestha as Chief Technology Officer, and Margrete L Wie as Head of Finance, at Emirates Biotech. The company says the
