Xenia extends Xecarb carbon compound line

Xenia has launched Xecarb ST, a new family of super tough carbon fibre compos- ites custom-engineered to close a performance gap in the market and provide enhanced impact strength performance. Xecarb ST is said to build

on the proven mechanical strength of Xenia’s existing Xecarb range, but offers significantly higher impact resistance, low temperature ductility, and tensile elongation at break. With a slightly lower density, the new carbon fibre composite grades also further light- weighting possibilities. “There is a growing demand for lightweight composites in various new markets, such as sustainable

mobility and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), where we have identified a need for higher impact resistance than previously offered by carbon fibre reinforced composites,” says Cristian Zanchetta, Technical Manager for R&D at Xenia. “Our new Xecarb ST

family meets these chal- lenges while at the same time opening new opportu- nities for innovative applica- tions in existing market segments, such as sports equipment, appliances, supercars, and even additive manufacturing.” www.xeniamaterials.com

Solvay expands PPA capacity

Nexam moving ahead

Sweden’s Nexam Chemical has taken delivery of a Feddem compounding extruder in the latest step in its construction of a new innovation centre at Lomma. The extruder will be

integrated in to a new line for production of its reactive additive master- batches. The company is currently configuring the line and plans to start commissioning shortly. “With our own innova- tion centre we become more efficient and faster in developing tailor-made solutions for customers,” according to Nexam CEO Johan Arvidsson. “The goal is to be able to streamline and shorten the time for customer projects and thereby lower the thresholds and shorten the sales time.” The centre will include

offices, laboratory and pilot plant. The company said it is expected to be compete in the spring of next year. www.nexamchemical.com

Lubrizol ups TPU production in China

Lubrizol has opened a new TPU production line at its Songjiang manufacturing site in Shanghai, China. The move both expands the company’s global TPU production capacity, and strengthens its regional support. The company says the new line will
