In August of this year, the company also ac-

quired most of the assets of its long-standing rival in graphene additives XG Sciences, which ceased operation in June. The acquired assets, which are being transferred to its plant at Montreal, include milling technology, R&D laboratory, patents, and trademarks. In March this year, Australian company First

Graphene announced an exclusive technology partnership with US-based graphite materials supplier NeoGraf Solutions. The 10-year agree- ment, which is intended to further develop the graphene market in the US, includes a first-year uptake commitment for two tonnes of First Gra- phene’s PureGraph product, scaling to 10 tonnes by year four. NeoGraf will sell the high aspect ratio, few-layer

PureGraph nanoplatelet product under its own Graf-X brand, which is already well known and established in the US market. The deal follows First Graphene’s introduction

last year of a second ready-made graphene masterbatch. PureGraph MB-EVA is a graphene- enhanced ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer masterbatch designed primarily for applications

requiring enhanced flexibility. According to First Graphene Managing Director Michael Bell, PureGraph MB-EVA is a “an off-the-shelf, pre-dis- persed graphene carrier that can be easily added to existing processing lines.” MB-EVA joins the company’s existing ready- made LDPE-based masterbatch. The company can also supply its PureGraph additives as a powder or produce custom masterbatches for specific applications.

Masterbatch trials Founded in 2021 by Brazilian steel producer Gerdau, Gerdau Graphene introduced its first graphene-based additives for thermoplastics earlier this year. The graphene-enhanced master- batches, which were developed in partnership with Brazil’s EMBRAPII SENAI/SP Advanced Materials Unit, are suitable for use in PE and PP applications and are being tested in a series of industrial applications. According to the company, the addition of a small amount of the new masterbatches can considerably improve the performance of thermo- plastics, increasing final properties while reducing
