World January-February 2025 issue). RSF continuous systems are characterised by a filter disc with circular screen cavities. The screen is changed on the side of the filter disc that is not in the melt channel, allowing the production process to continue uninterrupted even at high process pressures and with variable contamination levels. The RSFgenius filter model also offers automatic high-pressure segment rinsing, meaning parts of the screen surface are continuously cleaned with a small proportion of filtered melt, reducing back- flushing losses. Gneuss filtration systems can usually be easily retrofitted to existing extrusion lines, with the manufacturer insisting that they quickly pay for themselves through cost savings. Ester Industries is a manufacturer of PET film with facilities in Khatima, Uttarakhand, and Hy- derabad Telangana, India, which exports to over 85 countries. To enhance its technological capabilities, Ester has acquired a new Gneuss recycling system including RSFgenius filtration technology at its Hyderabad facility, enabling efficient processing of bottle flakes into food-grade pellets. The system is capable of processing 2,000 kg/h of flakes collected from India and the surrounding region, which can then be converted into food grade pellets without the need for pre-drying or crystallisation. The Omni 200 recycling system at the Ester facility consists of a 3C Rotary Feeder which ensures maximum process stability, and an MRS extruder, which is based on conventional single- screw technology but incorporates a multi-screw devolatilisation section. This design enables highly efficient and gentle decontamination of the polymer melt, ensuring that the material meets the stringent standards for direct food contact applica- tions. This particular system uses an MRS 200 extruder that degasses the melt at an absolute pressure of 25 mbar, allowing the use of a robust

process, which allows fine filtration down to 16-20 µm. This is made possible by two RSFgenius filtration systems that provide maximum filtration quality with minimal material loss and operate with integrated backflushing systems. This advanced technology enables fine filtration with exceptionally long screen life, even when processing post-con- sumer materials. The system offers numerous economic and environmental benefits, including significant energy savings, making it a highly efficient and sustainable solution. The new line is expected to be operational by late 2025. A new continuous melt filtration system de- signed for highly contaminated materials was recently installed at JSW Europe’s sales and extrusion technical centre in Benrath, near Düssel- dorf, Germany. “This enables extrusion trials for a wide variety of recycling applications in both mechanical and chemical recycling,” says Shota Kikukawa, Sales Manager at JSW Europe. “Now, we’re receiving numerous trial requests, reflecting strong interest from a wide range of customers.” At the recent Fakuma show, Maag presented its Eco series of continuous high-performance melt filters, which are used to filter contaminated polymer melts. For chemical recycling, the technol- ogy is used to filter low viscosity polymers, it says. The Eco filter is self-cleaning with a rotating, perforated drum, through which there is a continu- ous flow of melt from the outside to the inside. A scraper removes contaminants from the surface and feeds them to the discharge system. Ueli Thürig, President of Maag Group, said: “Sustainable technologies for recycling and the circular economy are becoming increasingly important. Whether solutions for mechanical or chemical recycling or machines optimized for energy and resource efficiency for the production, processing or treatment of plastics - Maag Group offers appropriate solutions for the plastics industry.”
