ADDITIVES | MINERAL FILLERS

the polymer – are available for the borosilicate glass flake. Imerys is a global supplier of a range of

minerals, including those used in plastics com- pounds, such as calcium carbonate, talc, mica, wollastonite and others. Imerys Graphite and Carbon supplies Timrex natural and synthetic graphites with a wide range of morphology and performance features to enable fine-tuning of polymer compound properties such as thermal and electrical conductivity as well as mechanical properties. The latest from the company is Su-ner- gy, a high-performance, low carbon-footprint graphite made with a new, catalyst-free industrial- scale process. The synthetic graphite powder, produced from

forest and wood industry residues in the company’s Bodio, Switzerland biorefinery, achieves up to 60% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to tradition- al methods, Imerys reported. Because the process does not use a catalyst, it reduces the risk of contamination in certain high-purity applications. The product offers supply security for the EU, since it is made in Switzerland using local feedstock. The new graphite additives have been evaluated

across several polymer applications and found to have improved or equal performance to com- pounds made with Imerys’ high-purity Timrex graphites in thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity and lubrication, it said. Graphite and other nano-scale additives will be discussed in more detail in the October issue of Compounding World.

Imerys has developed new Suzorite mica grades

from the company’s Boucheville, Canada site. The new grades for thermoplastics are engineered for maximum reinforcement, dimensional stability, and a thermal barrier/flame retardant synergist. “The offering enhances lightweighting possibilities through reduced dosage and/or via downgauging. When benchmarked against existing solutions, Suzorite Mica also enables improved/reduced warpage/coefficient of linear thermal expansion,” said Imerys Commercial Director, Michele LaPerna Wong.
