Small Robot Company Tom multisensory monitoring robot
Manufacturer: Small Robot Company (United Kingdom) Robot(s): Tom Task(s): multisensory monitoring robot Development start: unknown Pricing: unknown Units active: unknown Description: Tom is a multisensory monitoring robot, which uses six 5K RGB cameras to scan for weeds as well as hyperspectral cameras to detect problems such as slugs. It can also detect gases to check soil health. Tom, which weighs about 200 kg, is the first commercially ac- tive robot from SRC for weed mapping. In 2021 Rootwave weed-zap- ping technology will also be available as well as automated soil sam- pling using a probe. Microphones and additional sensors will also be added to ‘listen’ for birds, insects and wildlife, to give farmers a biodi- versity index. Initially it will focus on broad-leaved weeds, but grass- type weeds such as blackgrass will follow later. Availability: Priced at £15 per hectare, the service will also map emergent wheat. It can cover up to 20 ha per day.

Electric drive is being explored for specific appli- cations. The robots are built as a base platform and together with third-party developers, apps and attachments are designed through a developer ecosystem. This includes spray booms, weed detection systems, mower decks and slashers, non-chemical weeding technolo- gy, planters and apple tree thinning systems. SwarmBot navigates via GPS and inertial systems. GPS denied navigation is due to be released soon. Path planning includes a return-to-refill location feature. Availability: Operating leases for US$ 4,100 p month (three-year commitment). Oversees deployments planned third quarter of 2021.
