As I was preparing to visit Jennifer Vobis and present her with the 2022

Transportation Director of the Year award, her husband Mark was hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle. The vehicle left the scene of the Sept. 11 crash and Mark, who was a first responder in New York City on 9/11 and is a current Las Vegas law enforcement officer, was left fighting for his life. At this report, Mark remained hospitalized. Jennifer Vobis has been on leave since the incident occurred, and her team has

stepped up and supported her and the department in her absence. While on site to shoot this month’s cover photo, Vobis’ team never left her side.

When speaking with Director of Transportation Amber Rideout about why all five of the transportation department senior staff were following us on the facility tour, she commented that, “the team wanted to ensure Jennifer felt supported during this difficult time.”

Rideout added that the she and her associates wanted to make my visit a

celebratory moment for Vobis. “This is not a sad day,” Rideout told me. Visit stnonline.com/go/ccsd22 to read more about how the transportation department at Clark County School District is supporting Vobis both personally and professionally.
