While the devices don’t have turn-by-turn route navigation, bus drivers can access a PDF of their route and scroll on the tablet instead of flipping through papers. Some buses are also equipped with
Wi-Fi hotspots, which Demers said came in handy during the pandemic. Additionally, transportation has its own in-house app developer, who created
a parent app. The Onboard parent app can be used for parents to track the GPS of their child’s bus in real time, see upcoming changes to their transporta- tion service, schedule non-riding days for students with disabilities, late bus notifications, and to submit concerns regarding transportation service, Vobis said. Parents can also contact CCSD via the app instead of having to wait on the phone for non-urgent issues. Vobis added that the district uses
Zonar Systems for its electronic verified inspection resporting (EVIR), GPS and student checks. Recently, she added, the transportation team has been leveraging the student check and EVIR data to re- view safety protocols with their drivers.
