Hurricane Ian devasted Florida in late September, resulting in not only the cancellation of school but at least 126 deaths as a result of once-in-a-thousand years flooding. Despite evacuation orders for the Fort Myers and Tampa Bay regions, the storm was far worse then expected, resulting in the fifth-strongest to hit the U.S. and the deadliest in Florida since 1935. Dallas experienced its own once-in-a-thou- sand-year flood a month before Ian, as thunderstorms hit the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
