The following was submitted in response to an industry release on the stop-arm camera technology being implemented in the Phoenixville Area School District in Pennsylvania. Visit

In the state legislature, Act 38 of 2020 sadly became law, and should be repealed. It assumes a vehicle’s owner was driving and takes away all the person’s rights. It will also allow camera vendors to reap profits, based upon the number of tickets, which will act as an incentive to make sure the tickets keep flowing. Where is a requirement for a minimum flashing yellow duration? How about mandating stop-arm extenders to block the next lane? Making bus stops only on the right side of the bus to prevent crossing the roads? Adults to cross the kids, as some areas do? Moving bus stops to smaller roads and away from intersections? Illegal passing is not an epidemic, and federal data proves it. So why use cherry-picked studies to justify the cameras? Money, of course! That is why the law was changed, as the previous law had a stiffer penalty. The bill also has multiple subjects and is nothing like the original bill, since it was amended, so perhaps it is not even legal? James Sikorski Jr. (PA Advocate National Motorists Association)

With the technology we have today, the rear door could remain locked while the bus is moving and still be opened in the event of an emergency. Rep. Joseph Morelle of New York called on Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to waive the federal CDL requirement for school bus drivers and instead establish a school bus-specific license. Find the details at

Not sure how I feel about this yet. But [for] those of us that currently have a CDL for school buses, would we have to recert with this new special CDL? Or would we still be able to drive under our current license? Definitely am curious to see where this goes. Facebook/Jason F.
I don’t think they’ll do themselves any favors by dumbing down our license. I’ve been a proud CDL B holder for 33 years, but I believe the better educated we are the better driver we are. What do they want to do, put someone behind the wheel for a day and say, OK go drive that route? Can you imagine the consequences of that? Facebook/Annie Glad Clarke
