pulled different systems together: Financial, safety, peo- ple, and fleet. “Putting all that information in one place in a data
warehouse so you can access it, he has been instrumen- tal in kicking that off and getting it off the ground,” he added. “I think stabilizing the architecture of the busi- ness, that’s kind of the hardware and the basic systems and what you have to do to turn the lights on every day, making sure we’ve got a foot in today and tomorrow, he can connect with AI and with the data warehouse.” Sharda noted that while there are multiple technolog-
ical solutions available, the need for technology boils down to, “How can we eliminate people spending their time in manual, repetitive tasks and open them up for more human-to-human interaction or to allow people to do other things rather do then keying information in.” He explained that’s how he looks at and thinks about AI
as a whole. Providing self-service is also a key element. “When you start doing these two things at its root, eliminate the manual work for more human-to-hu- man interaction and provide more self-service, you’re ultimately going to create a better environment where
people want to work internally,” he explained. “[This] improves the employee experience and creates a better environment for the customers. Creating better cus- tomer experience leads to all good things happening financially for an organization.”
Sharda said all good ideas start with collaboration.
For instance, in trying to solve the driver shortage, he said Beacon employees including HR leaders, the opera- tors and the recruiting team came together to discuss the problem at hand. He said they discussed new ideas that would bring applicants in the door. “When you get perspectives from different angles …
you get different answers,” he said. “It’s about collabo- ration, to get different perspectives all the way from the functions to the operations people, and not just at the leadership level. You want to have some representation from each section of the organization.” The next step, he said, is being agile. He said organi-
zations don’t want to take years to build a solution but instead need to start with small pilots and solutions to theory test.
