West Dundee, IL — HELUKABEL has added a new PROFINET cable to its broad portfolio of industrial Ethernet cables — HELUKAT PROFINET Type R Torsion. PROFINET standards have traditional- ly been divided into three classifications, Type A, B and C. However, a new type has recently been added, Type R, which is designated for robotic applications. Designations include: Type A, a solid conduc-


tor for fixed installation; Type B, stranded conduc- tor for some movement or areas exposed to vibra- tions; Type C, stranded conductors for continuous- flex/permanent moving applications (i.e. drag chains); Type R, stranded conductors for robotic applications. As technology has changed, to more automated


equipment in industrial applications, customers are shifting from using systems that use PROFIBUS protocol to ones that use PROFINET, due to the increased data transmission rates required to main- tain operational efficiency in real time. Furthermore, dynamic require-


ments — acceleration, speed, etc. — have increased and created more mechanical stress and electromagnetic interference (EMI). Increased EMI is a byproduct of robot density, such as more robots in the same production cell, and higher speeds. In order to pro- duce the required acceleration, the motors need more power and torque. Additionally, EMI can be found in


the application where the robot is used. A painting or handling robot experi- ences a lower EMI load than a welding robot, since the welding process gener- ates a certain level of EMI. HELUKAT PROFINET Type R

Watertown, SD — Wurth Electronics has launched its flyback transformer selector in the latest release of its REDEXPERT tool. The integration of the transformer selector into REDEX- PERT is a complete makeover of the original smart transformer selector. This free tool is available in


seven languages and requires no login. More options are included in the REDEXPERT tool, including per- formance simulation, filter settings for over 20 electrical and mechanical parameters, direct access to product datasheets, and direct free sampling. The original transformer selector tool, the smart transformer selector (STS), will be available until the end of the year, and then redirected to the REDEXPERT version.
