For 200 years the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has been taking to the water to help people in need. On 4 March 2024 the charity celebrated its bicentenary with a Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey, marking the start of a range of activities planned throughout the year. Funded by voluntary donations,


and with lifeboats crewed by specially trained volunteers, the RNLI has been saving lives at sea since it was founded in 1824. In that time, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 142,000 lives.
