CLUB FOCUS: Llyn Brenig Part of the community

Dedicated volunteers and a proactive attitude are getting more sailors on the water in rural Wales

L

lyn Brenig Sailing Club has the fortune of using the scenic 920-acre Llyn Brenig reservoir, surrounded by the gently sloping hills of the

Denbigh Moors in North Wales. The hills aren’t much higher than the lake, meaning there’s good winds; rather too good at times though, as the 2023 RYA Dragon Youth Series event had to be postponed due to adverse conditions. Kevin Ringer, Llyn Brenig Sailing Club’s social media officer, explains how their beautiful location can be a limitation: ‘We’re in an isolated part of Wales and membership has not recovered from Covid. the clubhouse for their AGM. ‘We’ve decided to hold it in a local pub so that we go into the community,’ Kevin says. The club sees the value in being part of something bigger. ‘Our RYA Affiliation makes us part of a wider community; we’re not alone and have somewhere to turn for help and guidance.’ www.brenigsailing.club
