Hydrofoil comes home H
igh-performance hydrofoil racing will take place in Dorset when the RYA hosts the iQFOiL
World Championship in 2026. The world’s top Olympic windsurfers will compete at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA). The iQFOiL was introduced as the
˂ˠˣ˜˖ ˜˗˦˨˥Ѓ˚ ˘ˤ˨˜ˣˠ˘˧ for the Paris 2024 cycle, providing exciting racing and speeds which can hit 35kts (65kph). Great Britain will be defending the women’s and men’s World Championship titles, including the British Sailing Team’s double Olympic medallist and local star, Emma Wilson. Both Wilson and Andy Brown (pictured above) claimed gold at the 2025 Worlds in Aarhus, Denmark, in July.

UK Sport will provide National
Lottery funding for the regatta, and the RYA will be working in partnership with the iQFOiL Class, Dorset Council and WPNSA to deliver the event. ‘It will be a fantastic opportunity to help develop emerging talent, and spark new interest in watersports and the marine environment among local people.’
Following the success of
the 2023 Formula Kite Europeans in Portsmouth, the 2026 Worlds aim to be a catalyst for both social and environmental progress in Weymouth and Portland, by hosting a social impact programme for local young people. The event will also promote
sustainability and support environmental projects to protect coastline and marine habitats.
The iQFOiL World Championship will
be held between 21–26 September ʥʣʥʡ ˇ˛˘ Ѓ˔˦ ˜ ˕˘ ˜˩˘ʠ˦˧˥˘˔ˠ˘˗ online.
