Nomination RYA Publications recognised by global awards
RYA Publications has been shortlisted for the 2025 ABC International Excellence Award for Accessible Publishing. This is a global accolade that recognises outstanding achievements in making digital content accessible to people who are blind, visually impaired or otherwise print-disabled. Presented by the Accessible Books
Consortium and led by the World Intellectual Property Organization, it’s the most prestigious award of its kind in the publishing world. The nomination recognises RYA’s
long-term strategy to ensure all new titles are published as accessible EPUBs aligned with WCAG 2.0 AA standards, and our ongoing project to convert older titles. The awards panel also praised the
team’s proactive service in responding to accessibility requests from students and instructors. This recognition aligns with our
Together on Water strategy, reinforcing our mission to remove barriers to boating, and highlights the Publication team’s world-class commitment to inclusive publishing. By the time you
read this, the winners will have been announced at the World Blindness Summit in São Paulo, Brazil. We’re hoping to be able to count ourselves among previous winners including Cambridge University Press and DK Braille. See page 13 for details on our eBook app upgrade.

T
Reporting to the RYA External Affairs & Cruising Committee (a policy committee of the RYA board), the Inland Navigation Panel meets twice a year – and online as needed – to identify key concerns across canals, rivers, the Broads, the Boat Safety Scheme and more.
With guidance from RYA staff, it helps shape the RYA’s position on issues such as the use of lithium batteries, The Canal & River Trust licensing changes, Environment Agency restructuring and Scottish canal user engagement.
If you’d like to join the panel and shape the future of our waterways, we’d love to hear from you. To find out more and express an interest, visit
