international regattas in America and Europe. The British Sailing Team’s
Community RYA Beach Club inspires at SailGP weekend
While the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix Portsmouth thrilled with high-speed racing on the Solent during July, the RYA Beach Club brought the spirit of sailing to over 250 children and families with exciting on-water experiences.
Run in partnership with the Andrew Simpson Foundation, 1851 Trust, Energise Me and the RYA, the Beach taster sessions. For many participants, Bringing the science of sport to life on land, the 1851 Trust delivered interactive STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) experiences. And there were surprise visits from Emirates GBR SailGP athletes, including Sir Ben Ainslie. Local community groups and schools joined through the Hampshire Virtual Impact League, ensuring the event was inclusive and representative of Portsmouth’s vibrant communities. visit

John Gimson and Anna Burnet won gold in the Nacra 17 class at the 2025 USA Olympic Sailing Grand Slam at Long Beach, Los Angeles in July. The Olympic-class sailors had competed at the venue for the 2028 Games. Having gained ten wins from 15 races, the pair their nearest rivals. Gimson and Burnet’s gold was one of at the event: Micky Beckett won gold in the men’s ILCA 7, with silver for Elliot Hansen; two more silvers came from Hannah Snellgrove in women’s ILCA 6 and Connor Bainbridge in men’s Formula Kite. of extremely tight racing, Young posted impressive results over a wide range of conditions at the event in May. With four race wins and no result outside the top eight, Lily of her 2024 tuning partner, Olympic gold medallist Ellie Aldridge. Finishing either side of Lily, France’s Lauriane Nolot and Lysa Caval won gold and bronze respectively. In Gdynia, Poland, British
sailors Martin Wrigley and the 470 Worlds in June. The pair had led the majority of the medal race, which had to be started three times due to a constantly changing wind direction of just 5-6 knots. In what proved to be a
hugely tactical race, it was a battle for gold until the last few seconds. After a bad start, the Spanish team moved up a few places to grab the World Championship title, with the German team second. Fellow British sailors Hannah Bristow fourth overall.
