its partners. This recognition is part of Ministère de l’Agri- culture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ) concern to con- tinue its efforts in improving the living conditions of ani- mals. It should be noted that this nomination was presented by the Association des vétéri- naires équins du Québec (AVEQ), who wished to com- mend Cheval Québec’s efforts in protecting equines during an outbreak of herpesvirus cases in 2021. Recognizing the conse-

By requiring stricter biosecurity measures during gatherings of horses and by requiring mandatory vaccination for all sanctioned equestrian activi- ties, Cheval Québec suspected

that the measures would not be very popular with its clien- tele, who had just emerged from the pandemic and who were struggling to resume their equestrian activities. However, in order to prioritize the health of horses by con- taining the spread of this virus, Cheval Québec placed its bet on the future of equines and their well-being. As it was putting a

brand-new practice in place, Cheval Québec was able to transmit information to the entire equestrian community by disseminating the vaccina- tion protocols to be respected through its various communi- cation channels. Thus, in 2022, any horse participating in equestrian competitions or gatherings sanctioned by Cheval Québec had to be vac- cinated against rhinopneumo- nia

(herpesvirus) and

influenza. These measures will remain in effect for 2023 and are now part of the annual veterinary program for horses.
