Barbara Bouchard & ML El Condor Pasa
By Ashley Janzen On September 16-18th, reining
horse enthusiasts attended Fletcher’s Horse World in Waterford, ON for the Ontario Reining Horse Association’s Grand Finale. The Grand Finale is spe- cial because it features some unique classes and awards, and marks the end of the 2022 show season in Ontario. The ORHA 2 Year Old Reining
Prospect class is always a show high- light because it is often a first look at horses we hope to see in the show ring in the coming years. This year, Barbara Bouchard of Quebec showed ML El Condor Pasa, owned by Heather Ruthven, to the win. We’ll be excited to see all of these young horses back in the pen next year! While there were many stand-out
rides in the 3 Year Old Futurity, Melia Blakely swept all divisions (Open level 1 & 4, Non-Pro level 1 &4) with her horse, Northern Shine! She scored an impressive 144, and was clearly a crowd-favourite, judging by the cheers!
Shilo Shannon & Just Peachy
Brandy Louis & Unverified Royalty The excitement didn’t stop there!
The ORHA Derby resulted in a tie be- tween Chet Martin, riding Like My Whiskey, owned by Cara Brown, and Elizabeth Adamson, riding Ebony Sparkles, owned by Jeff Dunwoody. Truly evenly matched, the run-off re- sulted in another tie, and exhibitors agreed to be Co-Champions of the Open level 1 and 4. The Non-Pro level 1 was tied, as well! This time by Michelle Mailhot and her horse, Whos On Juice, and Jaimy McDonald on Crome Capone. Todd Sherrer took the level 4 on Dareth Miller’s Charlotte’s Code.
The Grand Finale also cele-
brated Youth, Green Reiner, and Rookie riders with special awards. Scarlett Ros, Ella Kendall, and Lan- don Brown were recipients of Youth Circuit awards, sponsored by Erie Wind Stables, for their respective age brackets, and the Rookie Shootout, sponsored by Jessie Marchant & Smart Chicoree, as well

as Samuel Nelson, went to Jennifer Skilling. After the last of the Green Reiners had shown, it was time to draw the winner of the $500 gift certificate to- wards a Continental Saddle, kindly sponsored by G&K Training and Tack – this honour went to Ashley Gregoris! These shows could not exist with-
out the tireless work of our show man- agers, staff, volunteers, and sponsors – not all of whom I’ve mentioned, but all of whom we appreciate so much! While celebrations at the Grand Fi-

nale are happy occasions, they also bring a sadness that the show season is over. So instead of focusing on the end, let’s look at some beginnings! The Grand Fi- nale was the start of reining careers for 4 new members! Please welcome…
Brandy Louis: Brandy comes from Barrie, Ontario, and spent most of her riding career in the English world. She made her debut in Green Reiner at the
