Ontario Trail Rider Association Submission for ‘The Rider’ – NOVEMBER 2022 Issue
2022 in Review … and WHAT A RIDING
SEASON the Ontario Trail Riders Association has had! Starting this past spring we were still unsure if the pandemic would allow us to have any or-
ganized rides. With everything gradu- ally opening again however, OTRA was back in the game with its usual 5 rides at the Dufferin County Forest Main Tract in Mansfield. From May until September, each of these monthly rides was scheduled Friday to Sunday, with the July one offering a full 7 days of camping. A membership draw early in the new year saw our membership num- bers triple by the end of February, and by the time our last ride took place in September, OTRA membership had reached higher numbers than in the pre- vious pre-covid years. Thank you every- one - the continuously hard-working board of directors as well as all renew- ing and new members who made each ride a success and worth working for. Our last ride in September was also
our dedicated, traditional ‘Fun-D- Event’. A lot of preparation and effort
went into organizing this one, with a whopping 36 registrants for this Ride’n Dine event. The positive feedback from all is what keeps each board member going! And some very fun events like Yvonne Taylor’s ‘Blindfolded Barrel Race’, Janice Clegg’s educational re- view on how to ‘Safely and Properly Highline’ your horses, as well as the de- licious, catered ‘Ribs and Brisket’, vegan/vegetarian options, and unforget- table deserts choices which was all or- ganized by Elaine Wiesner, will be in our memories until the next year! A big shout out to all of the executive and all participants again for making this a true FUN event. We also had so many of our mem-
bers donate to our OTRA tack table and I would be running out of space men- tioning each and everyone – thank you ALL again, you know who you are!
To finish, I would like to also thank the following businesses who
donated various gifts and prizes: Britt’s Corner Tack -

In addition, a great number of donations for our raffle table were
gratefully accepted from our OTRA members Lana English, Linda Fell, Dr. Sharon Adler and Heather Baulk Smith – so appreciated! Note to ourselves though … let’s start a bit earlier next year to be able to read the winner’s names WITHOUT a flash, lol. Currently planning a very busy 2023 Season… Happy Trails!
