up to the lost momentum from the 2 year hiatus due to covid. It was a thrill to see the enthusiasm and determina- tion set forth by our members and their families. We had a wonderful turn out for our clean up day and the Mother’s Day event was simply amaz- ing. Congratulations to all the com- petitors who rose to the occasion and

ing support via the class sponsors and the volunteering help with setup and teardown of equipment. A big thank you is needed for everyone that dug in and helped our leaders, Christina, Brenda, Ryan, Anika who lead the way to success. Without volunteers

ship the club will not evolve and it is my hope we continue to keep the pos- itive momentum we have set these past couple of months. Till we ride again, stay in the saddle.
10 Feet Off The Fence The first show of 2022 is in the
books, and, it was pretty much a nor- mal show. There were smiles, laugh- ter, tears, loose horse calls, a truck and trailer stuck in the field, normal secre- tarial errors (some of them mine), tack left at home by mistake, reluctant equines, some very keen mounts, the loud speaker wanting to not work, miscommunications, some rookie competitors, some tried & true veter- ans of the arena, visiting with old friends, and making new ones. Yes, it was a normal, everyday horse show. Where else would you rather spend Mother’s Day? Now the rest of the season will go “Swoosh”. The teeter-totter balance of Eng-
lish and Western was tilted to the Eng- lish competition. The Western was a bit light on entries, especially in the games. This has happened many times over the years, and I have no doubt that the balance will even out again. We had so many new faces
working the show. Anika was on the microphone, for the first time ever and did a really good job. Heather C vol- unteered her Mom for transcriber du- ties and barely had time to say “Hello my name is Theresa” before being thrust onto the laptop and told “GO!” I had to tell Brenda S to breathe as she walked around clutching her file folder, fretting over her first time Western co-ordinator duties. There were enough of us “old-timers” to keep all under control and assist where and when needed. Even the Food Booth was run by rookie Director Joe Wilder, even though he was no
stranger to helping the Lions Club keeping everyone well fed & watered throughout the day. The winners’ pic- tures were a hit and then some. I am so looking forward to seeing the pho- tos from everyone. Thanks to all the parents &
friends who pitched in to do set-up and take down. Linda L and I were sit- ting at the registration/membership table and looked at a real crowd sur- rounding the jumps. To all the hands loading & unloading the equipment from the wagon “Thank you!!!” It takes a lot of work to get
everything ready for the show. It is more than just the one clean-up day the week before. The day before takes more detailed work. Yes, the booth was cleaned of two years of neglect, dust, and dead insect bodies, but I still had to set-up the office by unpacking all the safely bagged stuff needed and organize where it all lives for the sea- son. It was secured as if Deb & Blythe knew, in October 2019, the stuff would not be needed for almost two years. Lorrie brought the ribbons and prepped them for easy hand-out, and the arena was dragged and readied for competition. Brenda scrubbed the out- houses to as sparkly a shine as possi- ble, and she, Barb, Brianna worked until dark to clear as many stones and rocks out of the spaces as they could find. It is a long day for a few people. On Easter Sunday I went to the
OXC competition in Ancaster. The group of spectators (from near Fort Erie) sat behind me discussing the lo- gistics of getting to the Trail Horse
Can a mouse and a horse become friends?
ARCHIE FINDS THE FILLY tells how, with the help of new friend Buzzy the Bee, Archie goes in search of his BFF Winny’s
new grand-daughter…a brand new baby horse. Together Archie and Buzzy visit all the farmyard families, trying to find the new little filly.
Lots of fun as they meet all the new babies who arrived this spring and, of course, our little hero finds the filly and introduces her to grandpa Winny. Great for read-alongs and offers colouring pages, too.

Trials on Sept 11. It is one of only two events this year in which they plan to compete. As the one lady was telling of her plans, her husband chimed in that she omitted his desire to partici- pate too. “What about me? I want to ride too!” They LOVE the THT’s and put it on their calendar as soon as the date is announced. Put it on your cal- endar as well.

Speedy healing thoughts to both
